If you hire a limo in Blackpool, please read and understand the important legal safety requirements and satisfy yourself that your limo hire operator complies in all respects.
In the UK, most chauffeur driven private hire limos are restricted to a maximum of eight passengers irrespective of vehicle size. There are no exceptions to this rule. In order to carry more than eight passengers, a vehicle must be registered as a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) and have a Certificate of Initial Fitness issued (COIF). However very few of the American limousines, (Including the large 4wheel drive Hummers, Navigators, Escalades, Excursions, etc) comply with the requirements and are therefore mainly restricted by law to a maximum of eight passengers. Jet Set Limousines are about to take delivery of Blackpool's first PSV registered 13 seater limo which will make us the only limo operator in Blackpool to be able to offer larger limousines with a company chauffeur. Our 4x4 limousines are the only ones in Blackpool to meet current EU bus passenger safety standards.
You may hire a larger capacity limo under the self drive limo hire regualtions although you would need to organise your own driver as self drive limo companies are not permitted to supply one for you. Self drive limo hire firms are not currently subject to regular independent vehicle testing or chauffeur vetting..
Limo Hire, rather like taxi hire is usually regulated by the local authority covering the operators area. The local authority is responsible for ensuring the safety of all passengers travelling in vehicles owned by operators who charge for their service.
The licensing authorities carry out regular vehicle safety checks and must satisfy themselves that relevant insurance and other documentation is in order each year. To further protect the public from unscrupulous operators, they also carry out regular chauffeur driving qualification checks and licence each chauffeur individually. Individual licensing also involves regular medical checks and annual criminal records bureau checks.
